Pathé at Home brings the cinema experience straight to people’s living rooms. Dawn Technology developed a scalable video-on-demand platform that delivers high-quality streaming across web, mobile, smart TVs, consoles and set-top boxes.
Pathé at Home was created with one clear ambition: to make the best movies available at home, whenever viewers want to watch. The platform quickly grew into one of the largest video-on-demand services in the Netherlands and became available across an extensive ecosystem of devices.
That growth created three major challenges. First, viewers had to experience the same quality of streaming and usability on every platform. Watching on an iPad had to feel identical to watching on a smart TV or game console. Second, the platform had to integrate seamlessly with a complex landscape of backend systems, including CRM, VoD management, DRM, streaming infrastructure and payment providers. Third, performance had to remain flawless during peak moments. On weekend evenings and rainy Sunday afternoons, thousands of viewers access the platform simultaneously. Interruptions, buffering or glitches were not an option. The viewing experience had to stay perfect under heavy load.
Dawn Technology built a robust video-on-demand platform designed to deliver a consistent experience across all supported devices. The architecture connects seamlessly with the full backend ecosystem, enabling content management, secure streaming, payments and digital rights management to work together as one coherent system.
From the start, performance was engineered into the core of the platform. The infrastructure is designed to scale during peak usage without compromising video quality or stability. This ensures smooth playback whether thousands of users stream at the same time on a Friday night or a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Throughout the development process, we worked in close collaboration with Pathé at Home. Short communication lines and a direct, hands-on approach allowed us to move fast, make clear decisions and continuously optimise the platform. The result is a technically solid foundation that continues to evolve as the platform grows.
Pathé at Home is now one of the leading video-on-demand platforms in the Netherlands, delivering cinema-quality movies across a wide range of devices. Viewers enjoy a consistent, high-performance experience wherever and whenever they watch.
The platform remains in active development and continues to grow through close collaboration between Pathé at Home and Dawn Technology. It shows how a strong technical foundation, combined with a pragmatic partnership, creates room for long-term digital innovation.
