SURFnet introduced eduVPN to protect students, researchers and staff against insecure internet connections. Dawn Technology developed eduVPN to provide safe, fast and user-friendly access to institutional networks from any location.
Universities and research institutions increasingly depend on online platforms. When networks are compromised, education, research and personal data are instantly at risk. At the same time, staff and students often work from public or home networks where security cannot be guaranteed.
SURFnet needed a solution that secured internet traffic and enabled remote access to protected systems, without adding complexity for end users.
We developed eduVPN specifically for educational and research institutions. eduVPN encrypts the connection between a user’s device and the institutional network, ensuring secure access to internal systems from anywhere.
The first version was based on Tunnelblick, which provided a solid foundation but lacked flexibility. In the latest version, we implemented network extensions using TunnelKit, an open-source OpenVPN reimplementation. Combined with a custom-built interface, this significantly improved usability and performance. Connection times were reduced from up to a minute to just two or three seconds.
eduVPN enables secure internet usage and remote access without compromising ease of use. Staff, researchers and students can work flexibly while institutional data remains protected. The result is a fast, reliable and future-proof VPN solution tailored to the needs of education and research.
Icetubs aims to make cold-water therapy more accessible and effective. We helped them develop a brand-new app that perfectly aligns with their brand and completes the ice bath experience. Working closely with Icetubs and their users, we translated the physical cold-water experience into a seamless digital one.
